The King and Queen came ashore from the Dannebrog

King Frederik and Queen Mary came ashore from the royal yacht Dannebrog at Nordre Toldbod in Copenhagen on Monday, bringing the sailing season to an end. The same evening the couple hosted the ship's officers for the traditional strygemiddag.
King Frederik and Queen Mary officially came ashore from the royal yacht Dannebrog at Nordre Toldbod in Copenhagen on Monday 14 September. With that, the royal yacht's sailing season is over for this year.

They were welcomed by Nanna Westerby Jensen, chief executive of By og Havn, and Harbour Master Christian Kopp.

• Why it is called a strygemiddag
The same evening at 7 pm the King and Queen hosted the officers of the Dannebrog at Frederik VIII's Palace for the traditional strygemiddag.
The name comes from the naval custom of striking the command. The command pennant is lowered from the royal yacht, marking the end of the sailing season.

The royal yacht Dannebrog is the royal family's floating residence during the summer months, and is used both for official visits within Denmark and for journeys abroad.
