"A new hussar": Princess Isabella completes the REX march

Princess Isabella has completed the demanding REX march in Southern Jutland with the other conscripts at the Guard Hussar Regiment. On Friday she received the REX badge with King Frederik's monogram.

"The royal family has a new hussar." That is how the Danish royal house announced that Princess Isabella has completed the traditional REX march together with the other conscripts at the barracks in Slagelse. A Guard Hussar is a soldier in the Guard Hussar Regiment, the Danish regiment that among other things rides as mounted escort for the King.

The march took place in Southern Jutland and lasted several days. When the conscripts returned to the barracks on Friday afternoon, they all received the REX badge with King Frederik's monogram.

A demanding march

The REX march is one of the toughest tests in the basic training at the Guard Hussar Regiment. It demands both physical and mental strength, and the soldiers march with around 30 kilos of equipment.

Before the march, the conscripts had trained in basic soldiering, weapons handling and field exercises, where the demands were gradually increased.

Three of eleven months

Princess Isabella, who is 19 and the daughter of King Frederik and Queen Mary, has been doing her military service with the Guard Hussar Regiment in Slagelse since 3 August. She will serve eleven months in total, and almost three have now passed. She has turned down both pay and food allowance during her service.
