Charles III became King on 8 September 2022, at 73 years old, after being heir to the throne longer than anyone else in British history – a remarkable 70 years. Born at Buckingham Palace, he became heir apparent at just three years old when his mother became Queen in 1952. He was married to Princess Diana from 1981 to 1996, and they had sons William and Harry. In 2005, he married Camilla Parker Bowles. Charles is known for his lifelong commitment to environmental conservation, organic farming, and sustainable architecture. He founded The Prince's Trust in 1976, which has helped over one million young people.
