The Royal Family Commemorated Holocaust Remembrance Day
King Carl XVI Gustaf, Queen Silvia and Crown Princess Victoria participated in memorial ceremonies in Stockholm on Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Holocaust Remembrance Day is commemorated every year on January 27th. The King and Queen and the Crown Princess participated in various ceremonies in Stockholm to mark the memorial day.

The Crown Princess attended the memorial ceremony at Eric Ericssonhallen on Skeppsholmen in Stockholm, organised by Forum för levande historia (The Living History Forum). During the ceremony, which was broadcast live on SVT, Holocaust survivor Piotr Zettinger and Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson gave speeches.

In the evening, the King and Queen attended the Jewish community's memorial ceremony at the Great Synagogue in Stockholm. The ceremony included candle lighting, music and speeches by Holocaust survivor Leon Weintraub and Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.
The King and Queen traditionally laid a stone at the memorial monument in the synagogue. In Jewish tradition, it is customary to lay stones, which unlike flowers are eternal. The stones that the King and Queen laid had been collected by the Queen from Drottningholm Palace Park. The memorial monument to the victims of the Holocaust was inaugurated by the King in 1998.
