Queen Margrethe Named Honorary Member at Lund University

Queen Margrethe was today named "hedersledamot" (honorary member) at Lund University in Sweden – a prestigious honour recognising her lifelong contributions to culture and science. Queen Margrethe of Denmark.

Great Honour in Sweden

In the biting Swedish cold, Queen Margrethe arrived in Lund, where a great honour awaited her. Lund University, one of the Nordic region's oldest and most prestigious universities founded in 1666, had decided to name her an honorary member – called "hedersledamot" in Swedish. The appointment recognises the Queen's significant contributions to art, culture and science throughout her long life.

Passionate Archaeologist

Before the ceremony, she had the opportunity to learn about the university's archaeological research, which must have pleased her as it is a field she is very passionate about. The Ceremony

During the solemn ceremony, Lund University's Vice-Chancellor Erik Renström had the honour of presenting her with a pin and diploma as proof of the honorary membership. Queen Margrethe abdicated from the Danish throne in January 2024 after 52 years as Denmark's regent. Since then, she has continued to engage in cultural and scientific activities, and this appointment is further proof of the respect she enjoys throughout the Nordic region.
