Grand Banquet at the Royal Palace for King Carl Gustaf's 80th Birthday

King Carl XVI Gustaf celebrated his 80th birthday with a grand banquet at the Royal Palace in Stockholm. Many members of European royal families and heads of state were invited.
King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden celebrated his 80th birthday with a grand banquet at the Royal Palace in Stockholm on the evening of 30 April. In the Hall of State, guests from across Europe gathered to honour the occasion.

Members of the Swedish Royal Family in attendance included Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel, Princess Estelle, Princess Madeleine, Christopher O'Neill, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia.
Distinguished international guests included King Frederik, Queen Mary and Queen Margrethe of Denmark, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium, King Harald, Queen Sonja and Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, Grand Duke Guillaume, Grand Duchess Stéphanie and Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg, Hereditary Princess Sophie of Liechtenstein, Queen Sofia of Spain, Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands, and King Rama X and Queen Suthida of Thailand.

From the official side of Sweden, representatives of the government, parliament, public agencies, the armed forces and the county governors were invited. Academia, research, business and media were also represented at the celebration.

The evening featured an impressive display of royal tiaras and formal attire. Queen Silvia wore the Braganza Tiara paired with diamond rivière and earrings. Crown Princess Victoria wore the Connaught Diamond Tiara with accessories from the Leuchtenberg Sapphire Parure and the Duchess of Albany's sapphire bracelet.
Princess Sofia wore her wedding tiara with pieces from the Napoleonic Amethyst Parure. Princess Madeleine wore the Modern Fringe Tiara with the Pink Topaz Parure. Queen Mathilde wore her Laurel Wreath Tiara with Graff diamonds, while Queen Sonja of Norway wore the Norwegian Emerald Parure with the Order of the Seraphim.

Queen Mary of Denmark made a notable choice, wearing Queen Louise of Sweden's floral bracelet as a tiara, combined with antique diamond earrings and a Queen Josefina brooch. Grand Duchess Stéphanie of Luxembourg wore the Aquamarine Bandeau Tiara, while Queen Suthida of Thailand wore the Thai Diamond Fringe Tiara.
Hereditary Princess Sophie of Liechtenstein wore the Habsburg Fringe Tiara with sapphire earrings, while Queen Sofia of Spain wore the Mellerio Shell Tiara with a canary diamond suite.
