Prince Harry is the younger son of King Charles III and Diana, Princess of Wales, and holds the title Duke of Sussex. He was born on 15 September 1984 at St Mary's Hospital in London, and was twelve years old when his mother died in 1997. After school at Eton he went to the Sandhurst military academy and served in the British Army for ten years. He served twice in Afghanistan, first as a forward air controller in 2007 and 2008, later as a helicopter pilot in 2012 and 2013. He left the forces in 2015 with the rank of captain. His years in the army still shape his work. In 2014 he founded the Invictus Games, an international sporting event for wounded and injured service personnel and veterans, since held in a number of countries. On 19 May 2018 he married the American actor Meghan Markle at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle. The couple were given the titles Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and they have two children: Prince Archie, born in 2019, and Princess Lilibet, born in 2021. In January 2020 they announced that they were stepping back as working members of the royal family. The family moved to the United States and live in California. Prince Harry is fifth in the British line of succession.
