Crown Princess Victoria is heir to the Swedish throne and holds the title Duchess of Västergötland. She was born on 14 July 1977 at the Karolinska Hospital in Solna, the eldest child of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia, and was given the names Victoria Ingrid Alice Désirée. When she was born only men could inherit the Swedish throne, and her younger brother Carl Philip was heir for the first months of his life. The new succession law that came into force on 1 January 1980 gave the right of succession to the eldest child, whether a boy or a girl. Victoria thus became Sweden's first female heir to the throne. She studied political science and history at Yale University in the United States and completed two internships at the UN in New York. In 2009 she took a bachelor's degree in peace and conflict studies at Uppsala University, and she has also completed military training and training at the Swedish foreign ministry. On 19 June 2010 she married Daniel Westling at Storkyrkan in Stockholm. He was given the title Prince Daniel, Duke of Västergötland. The couple have two children, Princess Estelle, born in 2012, and Prince Oscar, born in 2016. The Crown Princess has long worked on sustainability and the ocean. From 2016 to 2019 she was one of the UN advocates for the Sustainable Development Goals, and she remains attached to that work. With Prince Daniel she runs the Crown Princess Couple's Foundation, which works against exclusion among children and young people.
