Daniel fell ill, and Victoria went to the High Coast alone

Crown Princess Victoria was to have been joined by Prince Daniel on her two-day visit to Västernorrland, but he had to withdraw because he is ill. The first day followed the High Coast, the UNESCO World Heritage coastline, with stops at the Rotsidan nature reserve and Skuleberget.

Crown Princess Victoria is on a two-day visit to Västernorrland County. Prince Daniel had been due to join her, but had to withdraw because he is ill, and the Crown Princess travelled north on her own.

Along the High Coast

The first day followed the High Coast, the stretch of coastline in Västernorrland that is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. The land here has risen further than anywhere else on earth since the ice melted, leaving steep hills dropping straight into the sea and flat slabs of rock that once lay under water.

The Crown Princess called in at Bönhamn and Högbonden, and at the Rotsidan nature reserve, where the rock lies like a flat floor right down to the water's edge.

Skuleberget and local businesses

Later in the day she travelled to Skuleberget, where she met businesses from the area. The visit is organised by the County Administrative Board, with County Governor Carin Jämtin as host.

Dinner at the residence

In the evening Jämtin hosted a dinner at the Governor's Residence, the County Governor's official home.

Landslides on day two

On Thursday the visit continues at Högberget in Kramfors Municipality. There is a training ground there where rescue crews practise for landslides and ground collapses, that is, for what to do when earth or rock gives way.
