Queen Margrethe admitted to Rigshospitalet, will not attend the funeral

The Danish Royal House announced on Sunday that Queen Margrethe has been admitted to Rigshospitalet after feeling unwell. The Royal House says a new blood collection in the hip region and mild dehydration have been diagnosed, and that she is expected to remain in hospital during the coming week. She will therefore not attend King Harald's funeral on Wednesday.
The Danish Royal House announced on Sunday that Queen Margrethe has been admitted to Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen after feeling unwell. As a result she will not attend the funeral of King Harald V in Oslo on Wednesday.

• What the Royal House says
In its statement the Royal House says that a new blood collection in the hip region and mild dehydration have been diagnosed, and that both are being treated.
Queen Margrethe is in good spirits and, given the circumstances, is doing well, according to the statement. She is expected to remain in hospital during the coming week, for both observation and treatment.
The Royal House says it will provide further information when there is news. The statement is signed by Director of Communications Nina Z. Munch-Perrin.

The funeral of King Harald V will be held in Oslo Cathedral on Wednesday 9 September. Denmark will be represented by King Frederik and Queen Mary.
The royal couple postponed their state visit to Belgium, which was to have taken place from 8 to 10 September, in order to attend the funeral.
• About Queen Margrethe
Margrethe II became Queen of Denmark in 1972 and abdicated on 14 January 2024, after 52 years on the throne. Her son, King Frederik X, took over the same day. Queen Margrethe is 86 years old.
