The Amadeus Weekend was established in 2003 by festival patron Donald Kahn and Eva O'Neill, who has organised the weekend annually ever since. Funds raised during the weekend support creative development at the festival.

The programme featured a private dinner at Hellbrunn Palace, followed by the weekend's main performance: the opera "Ariadne auf Naxos" at the Haus für Mozart. Other guests included Prince Alexander of Schaumburg-Lippe and his wife Princess Mahkameh, along with Eva O'Neill's daughter Tatjana d'Abo and her husband Henry d'Abo.
