On January 6, 2026, King Frederik X and Queen Mary held the traditional New Year's reception at Christiansborg Palace. The royal couple received officers from the Armed Forces and the Emergency Management Agency, representatives from public Denmark, nobility and honorary titles, as well as representatives of organizations, associations and foundations.
Before the New Year's reception, the royal couple drove from Amalienborg to Christiansborg Palace in the golden carriage from the Royal Stables. The golden carriage was escorted by the Guard Hussar Regiment's Horse Escort. The carriage is the Royal House's finest and was built for Christian VIII by carriage maker Henry Fife in 1840. It is covered with 24-karat gold leaf, has four gilded crowns on the roof and a painted coat of arms on the doors.
