Queen Mary's father, Professor John Dalgleish Donaldson, has passed away in Hobart, Tasmania. He was 84 years old.
It is with great sadness that Queen Mary announces that her father, Professor John Dalgleish Donaldson, has passed away in Hobart, Tasmania. He was 84 years old.
The Queen states: "My heart is heavy, and my thoughts are grey. My beloved father has died. But I know that when the grief subsides, the memories will shine through, and what will remain strongest is the love and gratitude for everything he gave me and taught me."
Professor John Donaldson had for some time been increasingly affected by his age. The Queen last visited her father in March, where they shared several good and meaningful moments together.
John Donaldson was a professor of applied mathematics and was born in Scotland on 5 September 1941.
The family has decided that a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
