Royal Family celebrated Christmas at Drottningholm
The Swedish royal family gathered for traditional Christmas celebrations with all nine grandchildren.
On December 25, 2025, the Swedish royal family celebrated Christmas at Drottningholm Palace outside Stockholm. King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia hosted the traditional family gathering, which included all three generations of the royal family.
Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel arrived with their children, Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar. Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia came with their four children, including the youngest, Princess Ines who was born in February 2025. Princess Madeleine, who recently moved permanently back to Sweden with her family, was also present to celebrate Christmas.

Drottningholm Palace, which is the royal family's permanent residence, was decorated with traditional Swedish Christmas decorations. A large Christmas tree dominated the great hall, and candlelight created a warm atmosphere.
On Christmas Eve, the family followed Swedish traditions by watching 'Kalle Anka och hans vänner önskar God Jul' (Donald Duck and friends wish Merry Christmas) on TV, before gathering for Christmas dinner. The menu consisted of classic Swedish dishes such as Christmas ham, meatballs, Jansson's Temptation and rice porridge.

Princess Estelle, who is now 13 years old, actively participated in the Christmas preparations and helped wrap gifts for the family's staff. Her little brother Prince Oscar, 9 years old, was especially excited about this year's gifts.
King Carl XVI Gustaf, who turns 80 in 2026, expressed gratitude for having the whole family gathered. Queen Silvia, who has German heritage, has always emphasized combining Swedish and German Christmas traditions.

The Swedish Royal House shared a family portrait on social media on Christmas Eve, wishing all Swedes a Merry Christmas. The image showed a smiling family in front of the decorated Christmas tree and was quickly shared by thousands of followers.
