Royals from Several Countries Attended Olympic Opening in Milan
Several European royals attended the opening ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, including the Dutch royal couple, Prince Albert II of Monaco and Princess Anne.
King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima, and Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands; Prince Albert II of Monaco; Princess Anne and Sir Timothy Laurence; and Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg attended the opening ceremony of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games at San Siro Stadium in Milan.

Ahead of the opening ceremony, the royal guests attended a reception for heads of state hosted by Sergio Mattarella, President of the Italian Republic, at the Palazzo Reale. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni was also present at the reception.

The Dutch royal couple and Crown Princess Catharina-Amalia showed great enthusiasm for the Dutch athletes during the parade of nations.

Prince Albert II of Monaco, who himself competed in five Winter Olympics as a bobsledder, was naturally present to support the Monegasque athletes.

Princess Anne, who herself competed in the Olympics as an equestrian in 1976, represented the British Royal House together with her husband Sir Timothy Laurence.

The Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics runs from February 6 to 22, with competitions in Milan, Cortina d'Ampezzo and several other locations in Northern Italy.
