Crown Princess Mette-Marit has undergone a successful lung transplant at Rikshospitalet in Oslo. She will remain in hospital for several weeks.
The Royal House announced this morning that the Crown Princess has undergone a successful lung transplant at Rikshospitalet in Oslo.

The Crown Princess will remain in hospital for several weeks for rehabilitation and adjustment of medication. Crown Prince Haakon is adjusting his programme to be with her in the time ahead.
We are very pleased that everything has gone well so far.
This was said by department head Arnt Fiane at Rikshospitalet. Are Holm, head of the Department of Pulmonary Medicine, explained that the hospital stay is routine for adjusting medication, handling any complications and carrying out rehabilitation.
In 2018, Mette-Marit was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis, a disease in which healthy lung tissue is gradually replaced by scar tissue. She has lived with the diagnosis for several years while continuing to carry out official duties, but her condition worsened significantly over the past six months. In recent months she has at times depended on supplementary oxygen.
On 5 June, the Crown Princess was placed on the transplant list, after doctors assessed that without a transplant she had around one year left to live.
The Royal House has thanked people for the many warm messages, writing that the care shown means a great deal in a demanding situation. The next update on the Crown Princess's condition is expected when she is discharged from hospital.
