Marselisborg Palace is the Royal Family's summer residence in Aarhus and was built 1899-1902 according to designs by Royal Building Inspector Hack Kampmann. The palace was constructed for Prince Christian (later Christian X) and Princess Alexandrine.
The name Marselisborg originates from a Dutch family that immigrated in 1661. The original estate was later acquired by the Royal House.
In 1967, Frederik IX made the palace available to Princess Margrethe and Prince Henrik, who had it modernized. The palace has since been the Royal Family's regular summer residence.
The palace garden covers approximately 13 hectares and is designed in English style with art installations, a rose garden and a herb garden. The garden is open to the public when the Royal Family is not in residence.
