Marivent Palace is the Spanish royal family's summer residence, beautifully situated by Cala Mayor bay on Mallorca.
The palace was built between 1923 and 1925 by the painter Joan de Saridakis. The name "Marivent" means "sea and wind" in Catalan. After Saridakis' death in 1965, his widow donated the property to the Balearic Islands, which in turn gave it to the Spanish state as a summer residence for the royal family.
The royal family has spent their summer holidays here since 1973. King Felipe and Queen Letizia continue this tradition, and the palace is the center of the annual "Palma photo session" where the royal family meets the press each summer.
The gardens surrounding the palace were opened to the public in 2017 and contain sculptures by Joan Miró. From the palace there are spectacular views over the Mediterranean and Palma Bay. It is here that the royal family spends their most relaxing moments, away from the protocol in Madrid.
