Crown Princess Victoria to attend Princess Astrid's funeral

Crown Princess Victoria will represent the Swedish royal house at Princess Astrid's funeral on Wednesday. This was confirmed by the information department of the Swedish court to VG.

According to the newspaper Svensk Damtidning she will be the only member of the Swedish royal family travelling to Oslo. The Crown Princess also attended the funeral of King Harald V on 9 September.

• The church is open to all

The funeral will take place at Ris Church on Wednesday 23 September at 1 pm. The church is open to anyone who wishes to be present.

The service will be led by parish priest Paul Erik Wirgenes and the Bishop of Oslo, Sunniva Gylver.

So far it has been confirmed that King Haakon, Queen Mette-Marit and Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra will attend.

• Stoltenberg to give the memorial address

Finance Minister Jens Stoltenberg will represent the government and give the memorial address during the service.

"This is being done in agreement with the family," said Anne Kristin Hjukse, head of communications at the Office of the Prime Minister, to NTB on Thursday. Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre is in New York for the high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly and will not attend.

Princess Astrid died on Friday 11 September, aged 94. That was two weeks after her younger brother King Harald died, and two days after his funeral.

She was the last surviving of the children of King Olav and Crown Princess Märtha, and had represented the royal house since 1954.
