The heir to the throne began her first official solo engagement with a magical evening under the northern lights, before staying overnight with a reindeer herding family.
Princess Ingrid Alexandra arrived in Finnmark on Sunday afternoon to begin her very first official solo engagement for the royal house. The 22-year-old princess was dressed in warm snowmobile clothing before heading out onto the plateau.

Magical Welcome from Nature
The princess drove the snowmobile herself all the way onto the plateau, arriving at the herding cabin Sámmolasbeaska in Anárjohka National Park around 8 PM. There, an unforgettable experience awaited: A powerful aurora borealis lit up the sky, welcoming her to Finnmark in spectacular fashion.
Inside the cabin, she was received by the Sara family, who work in reindeer herding and are currently at their winter grazing grounds.
Night in a Gamme on the Plateau
The princess spent the night in a traditional Sami gamme, which must have been a special experience with temperatures dropping to minus 22 degrees Celsius. But as they say, cold weather is also beautiful weather, and Finnmark showed itself from its very best side.
Following in Her Grandparents' Footsteps
With this visit, Ingrid Alexandra follows in the footsteps of her grandparents. King Harald and Queen Sonja made their first official trip as newlyweds to Finnmark, a journey that became the start of the annual county tours that the royal family treasures.
The three-day programme continues with school visits in Karasjok, a visit to the Sami Parliament, and a dog sledding trip towards the Russian border.
