Princess Ingrid Alexandra Praises Sami Youth During Finnmark Visit

Princess Ingrid Alexandra concluded her stay on the Finnmark plateau Monday morning with a meeting with local school students in Karasjok. The 22-year-old princess gave an engaging speech at the sports hall, sharing her reflections on Sami culture and the role of youth in carrying forward traditions. Deep Respect for Sami Culture

In her speech, the princess drew parallels between Sami history and indigenous groups she has learned about during her studies in Australia. She noted that indigenous peoples around the world share many experiences, and that Norway has come a long way in the work of reconciliation and respect for Sami rights. The princess expressed pride that Sami culture is a living part of Norwegian identity, emphasising the importance of living respectfully together across different backgrounds. The princess was welcomed by students in traditional Sami attire.

Admiration for Engaged Youth

One of the most personal moments came when the princess spoke about her impression of Sami youth. She shared that she is deeply impressed by how young Sami people continue the commitment to culture, nature and language in today's society.

From the Plateau to the Classroom

The princess arrived in Karasjok by snowmobile after spending the night with a reindeer herding family on the Finnmark plateau. This three-day visit to Finnmark is her first official solo engagement for the royal house this year. After the school visit, the programme continued with a visit to the Sami Parliament, before the journey continued to Kirkenes later in the day.
