Duchess Sophie Celebrates Capability Scotland's 80th Anniversary

The Duchess of Edinburgh on Friday visited Capability Scotland in Edinburgh, meeting volunteers, staff and clients on the occasion of the organisation's 80th anniversary. Sophie is Patron of the charity.
The Duchess of Edinburgh on Friday visited Capability Scotland in Edinburgh to mark the organisation's 80th anniversary. Duchess Sophie, who is Patron of the charity, took her time meeting volunteers, staff and clients during the visit.

Capability Scotland was founded on October 31, 1946, originally to support children with cerebral palsy. The organisation opened its first school in Corstorphine, Edinburgh, in 1948, expanded into employment programmes in the early 1960s and established its first adult residential home in 1973. Today it provides care, support and education for disabled people across Scotland.

During the visit the Duchess also opened the new YouthZone Play Park, and she spent time with clients around the tea table.
