Crown Prince Haakon turns 53 today, in a year that also marks his silver wedding anniversary with Crown Princess Mette-Marit. The wedding gown and gala uniform from the 2001 wedding are on display at the Royal Palace.
Crown Prince Haakon turns 53 today, 20 July. The Crown Prince is the son of King Harald and Queen Sonja and is heir to the Norwegian throne. The day is an official flag day in Norway.

The birthday falls in a very special year for the Crown Prince couple: on 25 August it will be 25 years since Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit married in Oslo Cathedral in 2001, and the couple can celebrate their silver wedding anniversary.

The celebration comes at a time when the family has much to be grateful for. Crown Princess Mette-Marit underwent a lung transplant at Rikshospitalet on 17 June, and was discharged on 14 July after nearly a month in hospital. Over the next six months, the Crown Princess will focus on rehabilitation, and she will not carry out official engagements during that period.
