Queen Letizia wore white, in keeping with the so-called "privilege of white", a Vatican prerogative that allows Catholic queens to wear white in the presence of the Pope.

During the ceremony, the royal couple and the Pope were given an explanation by Valentina Sánchez, a 13-year-old blind girl, of a tactile model of the Tower of Jesus Christ. The model is a result of the collaboration between the Sagrada Família and the ONCE Foundation in Catalonia, which has worked since 2013 to improve accessibility at the basilica for visually impaired visitors.
