King Harald has begun his three-day county tour of Vestland, with the first stop in Etne municipality. Queen Sonja is on sick leave and is not taking part.

King Harald (89) began his official county tour of Vestland on Tuesday, with the first stop in Etne municipality. Queen Sonja is not taking part in the tour, as she has been signed off sick with atrial fibrillation and heart failure following examinations at Rikshospitalet Hospital.

"Both the Queen and I had been looking forward to it. Unfortunately, the Queen had to stay at home," the King said in connection with the visit.

The programme for the coming days takes the King on to Samnanger and Vaksdal municipalities on 27 May, and concludes in Askvoll municipality on 28 May. The Royal Yacht Norway is used during parts of the journey.

After this tour, the King will have made an official visit to every municipality in Vestland. Across Norway only four municipalities then remain before he has visited every one: Nissedal, Siljan, Rindal and Høylandet.
