Following examinations at Rikshospitalet Hospital, Queen Sonja has been signed off sick for one week due to atrial fibrillation and heart failure, the Royal Palace has announced in a press release. The Queen needs rest and an adjustment of her medication.
According to the press release, the Queen will stay at home during this period and will not be admitted to hospital. The Palace states that she is in good spirits.
As a result of the sick leave, the Queen will not take part in the county tour to Vestland, scheduled to take place over three days from 26 to 28 May. King Harald will carry out the tour as planned on the Royal Yacht Norway.
In January last year, the Queen had a pacemaker fitted following an earlier episode of atrial fibrillation. In April this year, she was transported by air ambulance to hospital after experiencing breathing difficulties, but was discharged after just under a week.
