Queen Camilla Honoured Inspiring Women on International Women's Day

On International Women's Day, March 8, Queen Camilla honoured a number of inspiring women she has had the privilege of meeting over the past year. Their courage, creativity and compassion are helping to shape stronger communities across the world.

Among the women highlighted was Gisele Pelicot, who bravely waived her right to anonymity as the survivor in France's largest rape trial. Her extraordinary courage to speak up on behalf of all victims has won her global admiration, and in 2025 she was awarded the Legion of Honour.

The Queen also highlighted Aamilah Aswat, who recently made history as the first black female jump jockey to ride a winner in Britain. Aamilah was part of Ebony Horse Club's Riding A Dream Academy, of which Her Majesty is Patron.

John Hunt and his surviving daughter Amy were also highlighted for their work raising awareness of violence against women, following the death of John's wife Carol and his two daughters Louise and Hannah.

Dame Laura Lee, CEO of Maggie's of which Her Majesty is President, was also honoured. The organisation works alongside the NHS to support those living with cancer, and this year marks its 30th anniversary.

Restaurateur Asma Khan, founder of Darjeeling Express, was recognised for her philanthropic work. She donates 100% of her restaurant's profits during the holy month of Ramadan to charity, and is involved in numerous community hunger-relief projects, including the UN World Food Programme.

Author Maggie O'Farrell was honoured for her acclaimed novel about Shakespeare's family, "Hamnet", which has recently been produced into a multi-award-winning film. The Queen's Reading Room hosted a special screening of the film.

Superintendent Sharon Baker, a domestic abuse survivor who set up a network to support fellow police colleagues also experiencing abuse, was highlighted. Supt Baker featured in the ITV documentary "Her Majesty The Queen: Behind Closed Doors", which followed The Queen's work on domestic abuse.
