Royal Couple Honoured Memory of Terror Victim at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid
King Felipe and Queen Letizia attended a memorial ceremony at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid to honour Francisco Tomás y Valiente, 30 years after he was killed by the terrorist organisation ETA.
King Felipe and Queen Letizia visited the Faculty of Law at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) to commemorate Francisco Tomás y Valiente, who was killed by the terrorist organisation ETA on 14 February 1996.

Tomás y Valiente was a prominent Spanish jurist and former President of Spain's Constitutional Court. He was shot and killed in his office at the university by a member of ETA. Thirty years after the assassination, the royal couple wished to honour his memory and his contributions to the Spanish rule of law.

During the visit, the royal couple laid a wreath at the memorial plaque dedicated to Tomás y Valiente at the faculty. They also visited an exhibition showcasing his life and work as a jurist, academic, and constitutional judge.

The ceremony brought together university leaders, family members, and representatives from the judiciary, serving as a reminder of the victims of terrorism and the importance of the rule of law in Spain.
