Prince William

Prince William is the elder son of King Charles III and Diana, Princess of Wales, and is heir to the British throne. He was born on 21 June 1982 at St Mary's Hospital in London. His father gave him the title Prince of Wales in September 2022, shortly after the death of Queen Elizabeth II. After Eton he studied geography at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. There he met Catherine Middleton, whom he married at Westminster Abbey on 29 April 2011. The couple have three children: Prince George, born in 2013, Princess Charlotte, born in 2015, and Prince Louis, born in 2018. William entered the Sandhurst military academy in 2006 and then served in the armed forces. From 2010 to 2013 he flew search and rescue helicopters for the Royal Air Force from Anglesey in Wales, and from 2015 to 2017 he was a pilot with the East Anglian Air Ambulance. In 2020 he created the Earthshot Prize, an environmental award given each year to solutions for climate and nature. In 2023 he launched Homewards, a five-year programme to tackle homelessness in British towns and cities. As Prince of Wales he also stewards the Duchy of Cornwall. He is first in the British line of succession.
