Kongsseteren

Kongsseteren is one of the royal family's private properties, located at Voksenkollen in Nordmarka outside Oslo. The property was given as a coronation gift to King Haakon VII and Queen Maud in 1906.

The main building was erected in 1905-1907 in Dragon Style, the characteristic Norwegian National Romantic architectural style. The building is constructed in black-tarred timber with slate roof and stands as a magnificent representative of this architectural tradition.

Kongsseteren has traditionally been used especially in winter, often in connection with Christmas celebrations and the Holmenkollen ski events. The location in the middle of Nordmarka provides good opportunities for outdoor activities both summer and winter.

The property is private and not open to the public. It has been a beloved retreat for the royal family through generations, a place where they can withdraw from public life and enjoy nature in the Oslo forests.
