Princess Catherine gathers the mountain climbers at Windsor

Princess Catherine hosted a tea party at Windsor Castle for others who have completed the Three Peaks Challenge. The guests included a boy who was carried up Ben Nevis, and the youngest amputee to finish the three mountains in a day.
Princess Catherine hosted a tea party at Windsor Castle in Berkshire for others who have completed the Three Peaks Challenge. She met several of the guests on the mountains when she took on the challenge herself in June.

Kensington Palace has not published an account of the gathering, but the Princess heard the stories of those who have made their way up the three mountains.
• Three mountains in one day
The Three Peaks Challenge means climbing the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales within 24 hours: Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales. Together that is about 37 kilometres on foot, some 3,000 metres of ascent and 740 kilometres of driving between the mountains. Much of it is done overnight.

The Princess completed the challenge in June, raising funds for The Royal Marsden, the cancer hospital in London where she was treated herself. Kensington Palace said at the time that she did it to explore life beyond a diagnosis and to give something back.
• Carried up Ben Nevis
Among the guests was Ted Haslam, a boy who uses a wheelchair and whom the Princess met on Ben Nevis in Scotland. He was pushed and carried up the mountain by his father Pete and fifteen friends and family members.

• The youngest amputee to finish
Another guest was Albie-Junior, who in August became the youngest amputee to complete the Three Peaks Challenge within 24 hours. He walked it to raise money for his local football club.
