Princess Ingrid Alexandra Concluded Finnmark Visit with Dog Sledding in Kirkenes

Tuesday was Princess Ingrid Alexandra's second and final day in Finnmark, and she spent the day in Kirkenes. The three-day visit has been the princess's very first official solo engagement for the royal house. Princess Ingrid Alexandra arrives in Kirkenes.

Meeting with Schoolchildren

The day began with a visit to Kirkenes school, where the princess received a tour and visited two classrooms. One of the highlights was meeting a first-grade class celebrating their 100th day of school. The pupils apparently thought that was precisely why the princess had come to visit. Ingrid Alexandra, who has worked as a substitute teacher at Uranienborg school in Oslo, appeared confident and natural in her interactions with the children.

Dog Sledding on the Finnmarksløpet Trail

After the school visit, a special adventure awaited. Students from Tana Upper Secondary School took the princess dog sledding, where she got to drive one of the trails used during the famous Finnmarksløpet race.

Meeting with Business Community

The final item on the programme was a visit to the Barents Secretariat in Kirkenes town centre. Here the princess met a selection of business representatives from Sør-Varanger and Kirkenes, who told her about opportunities and challenges in the border area with Russia and Finland. This concludes the princess's first solo engagement, a three-day visit that has taken her from the Finnmark plateau via Karasjok to Kirkenes, showcasing a confident and engaged heir to the throne ready for new tasks.
