The deterioration is due to a bacterial infection in the blood. The King is being treated with antibiotics, and according to the Palace he has responded to the treatment. His condition is now described as stable.
The 89-year-old King has been hospitalised at Rikshospitalet since Monday, August 17, following several weeks of cortisone treatment for haemolytic anaemia. The King remains in hospital and is now on sick leave until further notice, rather than until the end of August as previously announced.
Crown Prince Haakon is serving as regent and carrying out the King's constitutional duties for as long as his father is on sick leave. RoyMob is following the story and will provide updates as more information becomes available from the Palace.
