Crown Prince Haakon Visits Fire-Stricken Residents in Drammen

Crown Prince Haakon visited residents affected by the major fire in Krokstadelva in Drammen, where more than 100 homes have been destroyed or badly damaged. "This is Norway at its best. When something dramatic happens, we step up," the Crown Prince said.

On Sunday, Crown Prince Haakon visited residents affected by the major fire in Krokstadelva in Drammen. The visit began with a briefing on the firefighting efforts, before the Crown Prince was given an overview of the fire-ravaged area by helicopter.

Around 400 people had to be evacuated when the fire destroyed or severely damaged more than 100 homes.

The Crown Prince then visited the evacuation and family support centre, where he met evacuated families, volunteers and representatives of the municipality. Volunteers from the local community have stepped up with food, clothing and support for those affected.

"It makes an impression to see the extent of the destruction, but also to experience how the local community steps up for those affected. This is Norway at its best. When something dramatic happens, we step up," the Crown Prince said.
