Queen Sonja has cancelled today's official programme due to atrial fibrillation, the Royal Palace has announced. The Queen was among other things scheduled to attend during the visit of India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Queen Sonja (88) has cancelled today's official programme due to atrial fibrillation. "Her Majesty The Queen has cancelled official duties today, due to atrial fibrillation," the Royal Palace has stated.

The Queen had been scheduled to take part in several engagements at the Royal Palace in connection with the visit of India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In January last year, the Queen had a pacemaker fitted following an earlier episode of atrial fibrillation. In April this year, she was transported by air ambulance to hospital after experiencing breathing difficulties, but was discharged after just under a week.

The Queen took part in the 17 May celebrations the day before.
