Crown Prince Haakon to Make Official Visit to Japan

H.R.H. Crown Prince Haakon will make an official visit to Japan from 1 to 4 June 2026. The visit will take him to Tokyo and Hachinohe and aims to strengthen cooperation between Norway and Japan.

Japan is a key regional and global player, and a clear champion of democracy and a rules-based world order. The country is an important partner for Norway in security policy, business and technology. Japan is also central as a NATO partner and a key supporter of Ukraine.

Japan is one of Norway's most important markets for seafood, and cooperation on sustainable oceans, marine value creation and seafood trade holds an important place in the bilateral relationship. Japan is also a high-priority market for several Norwegian industries in the maritime sector, energy and defence equipment. The country's focus on sustainability, supply security, new technology and artificial intelligence offers good opportunities for increased cooperation.

The visit will follow up on the strategic partnership with Japan in foreign affairs and defence cooperation, business and research. Sustainable ocean management and seafood, along with green transition and new technology, will be among the main themes of the programme, which is still being developed.

From the government, Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Policy Marianne Sivertsen Næss, Minister of Digitalisation and Public Governance Karianne Tung, State Secretary Ragnhild Sjoner Syrstad from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries, and State Secretary Andreas Flåm from the Ministry of Defence will participate. A Norwegian business delegation will also join the trip.
