The Crown Princess, who was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis in 2018, has experienced a clear negative development this autumn. Doctors at Rikshospitalet have therefore begun preparations for assessment for lung transplantation.
In a rare candid interview, the Crown Princess said: 'We have always known with this disease that this is the direction it goes. But I think it came a bit faster than at least I had imagined and hoped.'

Crown Prince Haakon confirmed the seriousness of the situation: 'We are not yet at the point where you will be put on the list, but the tests show that the disease has progressed further.'

Those who receive transplants must use immunosuppressant medications for the rest of their lives. Therefore, one must be quite ill and have poor life expectancy before it becomes an option.
The Crown Princess will not be prioritized over other patients if she is placed on the waiting list. It is always the sickest patient who comes first.
